DAVIES PROMOTED REGIONAL VICE PRESIDENT

Radio One announces the promotion of radio veteran Tim Davies to Regional Vice President.

With over 30 years of media management experience and a proven track record in the expansive Radio One Atlanta market since 2008, Davies’ promotion to regional vice president reflects his success in talent and market management, revenue growth, and high-performance team development.

Tim Davies promoted to Regional Vice President oversees the Radio One Atlanta and Reach Media operation which includes four radio stations (Hot 107.9 FM, MAJIC 107.5/97.5 FM, Boom 102.9FM, Praise 102.5FM), four syndicated shows (The Rickey Smiley Morning Show, The Ed Lover Morning Show, The Willie Moore Jr. Show and The Nightly Spirit with Darlene McCoy), digital platforms, the filming of Dish Nation TV and signature events such as Birthday Bash and Praise in the Park which draws tens of thousands of people to Atlanta annually. A graduate of the University of Georgia, Davies is a well-awarded radio professional.  He was a Radio Wayne Award finalist for Major Market Manager of the Year in 2010, 2014 and 2017.  He was also named by Radio Ink as one of its 2004 Market Managers of the Year and again in 2012 on its Top 50 Market Managers of the Year list.

David Kantor, CEO of Radio One and Reach Media said, “Tim is a proven market leader that has been consistently progressive in his business acumen, sales strategy, and people management skills. His steadfast leadership has continued to position our local stations and nationally syndicated shows to win. It’s a pleasure to announce this well-deserved promotion.”

Davies said, “Every day we create content in Atlanta impacting not only our market but the entire country using the fully integrated platform of our local stations, syndicated shows, vast digital assets and television programming. I am excited about the new role and how we will continue to grow revenue and audience in the years to come.”

WNOZ 95.3 on board for Jazz Festival

Tony Gray’s Smooth Jazz Radio Station WNOZ 95.3 is on board as a sponsor of the Camellia City Smooth Jazz Festival, the festival lineup includes Gerald Albright, Stephanie Jordan, and The Speakerbox Experiment.

Gray says, “He’s happy to be involved as a sponsor, and as a local business he’s looking forward to having his Smooth Jazz formatted WNOZ 95.3 at the forefront of more community events in the New Orleans market”!

The inaugural weekend event was interrupted earlier this month by the unexpected weather conditions of Hurricane Nate. Festival promoter Jin Jeans Productions worked diligently in spite of bad weather conditions to meet the challenges brought on by the hurricane approaching the Louisiana gulf coast.

The promoters are excited to announce the rescheduled brunch titled the “Camellia City Smooth Jazz Matinee Dinner” which is set for Sunday, November 12, 2017 – 4 p.m to 8 pm at the Northshore Harbor Center in Slidell, Louisiana.

The ‘Fly Jock’: Tom Joyner to retire in 2019

Tom Joyner, once known as the ‘Fly Jock’ doing a morning radio show in Dallas-Fort Worth and then flying to Chicago to do an afternoon show, is talking about hanging up his headphones…

The nationally syndicated radio personality and activist previously did a morning show at KKDA/104.5 FM “K104” in DFW.

Although his show was available online and via a smartphone app, Joyner, who had previously aired on KRNB/105.7 FM as well as K104, was off “terrestrial” radio in a market where he had deep roots.

“I wanna have a swan song that’s two years long,” he says. Joyner’s blog post is titled “Bigger and Better Things Ahead,” which seems to imply that although he’ll be ending the show, he’ll continue his activism, which included voter registration drives, raising money for Historically Black Colleges and Universities and such show campaigns as Take a Loved One to the Doctor.

“I’m really gonna sit down,” he tells co-host Sybil Wilkes in the clip. Till then, there will be a lot of activity on the morning show. He says he wants to meet every listener, and the party isn’t over.

His show had aired on various incarnations of KSOC from 2002 to 2014 when the station dropped him, with execs explaining that they didn’t believe he fit the classic hip-hop format.
