Vieneese Stanton surprised her stepfather Preston Rolan, who has raised her since she was 3 years old, with a wedding last month at UCSF Medical Center in San Francisco.
Mr. Rolan, 64, had been failing health since he was diagnosed with leukemia earlier this year. Vieneese Stanton told The KBLX Morning Dream Team she wanted her father to be part of a special ceremony. Vieneese and her fiance made the choice and decided to push up the wedding. With the helpful hospital staff, they were able to make dreams come true and Preston walked Vieneese down the aisle. Mr. Preston Roland passed away the morning of December 4th at UCSF Hospital in San Francisco.

The 20th annual “Bear Hugs Toy Drive” holiday event, distributing toys to pediatric patients, is on Tuesday, December 12 from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm PST, and donations will continue to be accepted throughout December. The “Bear Hugs Toy Drive” was launched by Liset Meruelo, wife of prominent Cuban-American businessman Alex Meruelo, of the Meruelo Group. Meruelo says, “The small donation of plush toys provides these children and their families with moments of happiness, smiles, and joy. As a parent of a pediatric patient, you look forward to anything that brings comfort during the treatments and their illness; you want them to just feel like a child during the holidays.”
In addition to plush toy donations for the children, celebrity guests, Power 106 and 93.5 KDAY’s on-air talent and Frozen and Star Wars costumed characters will entertain the children and deliver the plush toys.
To donate online, please log onto https://www.youcaring.com/BearHugsToyDrive. In person and off-line donations of new plush toys or Pillow Pets (12″ or larger) can also be shipped or dropped off at Power 106 FM/93.5 KDAY FM, 2600 West Olive Avenue, Suite 800 Burbank, CA 91505 or to Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital Long Beach at 2801 Atlantic Avenue, Long Beach 90806, ATTN: Child Life Program
Meruelo added, “Our goal is to provide 1000 new plush toys for pediatric patients throughout the entire year.”
93.5 KDAY and Power 106 are owned by Meruelo Media, the largest minority-owned broadcaster in California.
MemorialCare Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital Long Beach, part of OC-based health system MemorialCare, provides specialized care for children and young adults, with conditions ranging from common to complex – as well as maternity care for expectant mothers – all under one roof. Only five percent of all hospitals are children’s hospitals, making them unique not only to children’s health care needs in the community but across the region. Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital Long Beach is one of only eight free-standing children’s hospitals in California – treating more than 14,000 children each year – and has become a regional pediatric destination for more than 84,000 children, who need specialized care in the outpatient specialty and satellite centers.
Celebrities including Diddy, Kevin Hart, Cardi B., Eminem, DJ Khaled, will.i.am, Ludacris, Fat Joe, Swiss Beatz, Remy Ma and Nick Cannon donated generously to the Radiothon. But the real heroes were the thousands of Breakfast Club listeners who donated $1, $5, $10, & $20.
OneUnited Bank’s support of Change4Change demonstrates the true power of “collective economics” and the positive ripple effect it can have. During a live interview about his $100,000 donation, Diddy commented, “It’s incredible. This is how we should use our power.”
Teri Williams, President & COO of OneUnited Bank, states that now is the best time to build personal and community wealth by using technology and financial literacy. We also need to use our collective economic power to defend ourselves and fight for social justice.
OneUnited Bank encourages the Black community and its allies to not only move their money or #BankBlack, but also move their minds to do more business with Black-owned businesses or #BuyBlack and #BuildBlack. The Change4Change partnership exemplifies OneUnited Bank’s commitment to the social and economic justice movements. The Breakfast Club will take donations through December 1, 2017.
